Anthropic, Claude Opus 4.8 introduced

Anthropic, Claude Opus 4.8 introduced
  • Anthropic announced Claude Opus 4.8 on May 28, 2026 as an upgrade over Opus 4.7, available immediately at the same price.
  • The release adds benchmark gains across coding, agentic work, reasoning, and knowledge tasks, with Anthropic positioning it as a stronger long-session collaborator.
  • Anthropic said fast mode for Opus 4.8 runs at 2.5× speed and is three times cheaper than fast mode on previous models.
  • claude.ai now includes effort control, letting users trade off deeper reasoning against faster responses and lower rate-limit usage across all plans.
  • Claude Code adds dynamic workflows in research preview, allowing planning and execution with hundreds of parallel subagents in one session for larger codebase-scale tasks.
  • Anthropic said Opus 4.8 is around four times less likely than its predecessor to let flaws in its own code pass without comment.
  • The company also said alignment testing showed lower rates of deception or misuse cooperation than Opus 4.7, with results detailed in the Opus 4.8 System Card.
  • The Messages API now accepts system entries inside the messages array, allowing mid-task instruction updates without breaking prompt caching.

GitHub, GHAS Hard Budget Limits Added

  • GitHub added hard budget limits for GitHub Advanced Security on May 28, 2026.
  • Enterprise admins and billing managers can now cap GHAS license usage with an enforced limit.
  • Earlier GHAS budgets were soft only, with email alerts at 75%, 90%, and 100% but no usage block.
  • Once the hard limit is reached, new GHAS license assignments are blocked.
  • GHAS is also not enabled on new repositories until the budget is raised or licenses are freed.
  • The budget setup screen shows a real-time license-to-dollar monthly cost estimate.
  • For existing customers, the minimum hard budget starts at the current billable license count.
  • Budget controls are available in Billing settings under Budgets & alerts.
  • Enterprises can scope budgets by cost center, and Team plan organizations can also set organization-level license budgets.
