Cloudflare launches Precursor for session-based bot detection

Cloudflare introduced Precursor on 2026-07-13 as a client-side system for detecting agentic and automated traffic.
It uses dynamically injected JavaScript to collect session-level behavioral signals across an entire web application.
Captured signals include pointer movement, keyboard activity, focus changes, and page visibility events.
Cloudflare says the signals are processed in real time and fed into its bot protection decisions.
Precursor is positioned as an optional complement to Turnstile within Enterprise Bot Management.
Turnstile already runs nearly 3 billion times per day on login, signup, and checkout flows.
Cloudflare says its network-level bot analysis covers over 1 trillion requests per day across more than 20% of the web.
The goal is higher detection precision with fewer unnecessary challenges for legitimate users.

DeepSeek, V4 Preview and 1M Context Release

DeepSeek released DeepSeek V4 Preview on April 24, 2026, and opened weights on Hugging Face.
DeepSeek-V4-Pro uses 1.6T total parameters with 49B active parameters.
DeepSeek-V4-Flash uses 284B total parameters with 13B active parameters.
Both models ship with 1M context as the default across official DeepSeek services.
The API now supports deepseek-v4-pro and deepseek-v4-flash with the existing base_url.
Both models support Thinking and Non-Thinking modes.
DeepSeek states the API is compatible with OpenAI ChatCompletions and Anthropic APIs.
DeepSeek also says V4 is integrated with agent tools including Claude Code and OpenCode.
deepseek-chat and deepseek-reasoner will retire on July 24, 2026 at 15:59 UTC.
